BIO
David M. Verhey is the Principal at FLG’s D.C. office, where he concentrates on ventures, startups, business strategy, corporate affairs, and government markets. David has broad experience in the national security community and works with clients across a range of industry sectors and fields, including aerospace and defense, technology, energy, and professional consulting. Often serving as outside general counsel, his focus is helping clients expand their market share, protect valuable business assets, develop new ventures, and comply with regulatory requirements. He is a frequent conference speaker and an author of several articles on security and technology, including big data, the internet of things, insider threat mitigation, and privacy policy. He is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) and is currently cleared TS/SCI.
David’s legal career has spanned over two decades, and encompasses private practice, ventures, and government service. He formerly served as a Senior Advisor and Counsel in the Department of Defense, where he supported counter-terrorism and intelligence programs, IT development, cybersecurity, government contracting (FAR/DFARS), and advanced R&D. Prior to joining the DoD, he was a partner in a national law firm, a senior executive at the Interior Department, and counsel to the California Governor. David began his career as a trial and appellate attorney in the Office of the California Attorney General, where he successfully handled federal and state litigation involving criminal databases, major state procurements, and constitutional issues.
EDUCATION
David received his BA in History in 1994 from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and his JD in 1997 from the University of the Pacific.
ADMISSIONS & HONORS
David is admitted to the Bars of the State of California and the District of Columbia, as well as the US Supreme Court.
